Our Facility
Sustainable Features
Ann Richards Middle School is a 184,728-square-foot building that features 63 classrooms, science labs, auditorium, open cafeteria, two gymnasiums, “main street” corridor and entrance, and exterior sun dial courtyard. In addition, the property has an outdoor sports complex that includes a football/soccer field, baseball and softball diamonds, tennis courts, and basketball court.
Ann Richards STEAM Academy currently houses over 1,100 scholars in grades six through eight. The three- story building is designed and built according to the Texas Collaborative for High Performance Schools’ (CHPS) code of environmental standards. CHPS standards require the inclusion of energy efficiency, conservation, and design features that promote the sound use of resources.
Environmentally friendly elements and construction features include geothermal wells for cooling and heating, an abundance of natural lighting, use of recycled building materials, and sustainable landscape design and irrigation control. In addition, green features include a “cool roof” and an educational garden.
